Ocean Park is a cross-over between a zoo and an amusement park. It is divided into two separate areas connected by a cablecar. The lowland contains mainly a zoo, featuring parrots, birds, butterflies, fresh-water aquariums, and pandas as the great stars. On the headland, visitors can enjoy the wonderful view over the bay from the look-out, stroll through the giant salt-water aquarium, watch seals and dolphins perform, and take amusement rides on roller coasters and ferris wheels.

Although the description sounds very Disneylandish at first, Ocean Park has a successful concept and is truly worth a visit for all age groups. The nature exhibits focus on education and conservation, supported by shows and events. In between, the various rides provide relaxation and fun.

Ocean Park is hugely popular with locals. To have a wonderful and relaxing day, it is best to go during the week. On weekend afternoons, the place, especially the headland, will be absolutely packed even by Asian standards. Mornings are usually best to enjoy the rides because waiting times will be much shorter. Upon admission, do not omit to check the scheduled events and pick those of interest to you. The feeding of the pandas, e.g., is truly worth a visitor's while.

Ocean Park opens daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is located in Aberdeen on Hong Kong Island, not far behind Aberdeen tunnel. Various double-decker busses go there.

It is most comfortable, however, to take the special Ocean Park bus 629 departing from Starferry concourse in Central. Note that for this bus, you will have to pay the fare in the Ocean Park booth behind the stop where combined bus and entrance tickets to the park are available. Admissions are HK$ 185 for adults and HK$ 93 for children.
