Berne is the capital of Switzerland. It is located strategically in a wide bend of the river Aare that gives it natural protection from three sides.
Berne's main attraction is its old town, with the Munster St. Vinzenz, the big church, and the Zeitglockenturm with the beautiful moving clock.

Berne also offers a most unique shopping setting. Its old houses all have pedestrians arcades on their ground floor which keep shoppers dry in all kinds of weather. Thus, shop windows are set back from the street by about a quarter of the building's depth. Addionally, there are many atmospheric cellar shops. To find these, you will have to look in front of the arcades.
