In Cambodia and quite a few other countries of SE Asia, traffic regulations are considered mere recommendations and routinely ignored.
Driving by car on one's own is not recommended, but a car with a driver can be rented at a reasonable price. Always agree on the price in advance.
There are many cars in Cambodia that originated in Thailand, having the steering wheel on the right ("wrong") side of the car and the front seat passenger has to be the look-out for oncoming traffic.
For safety reasons, many experienced travellers will only sit on the back and never on the front seats which may be considered the closest place to heaven.
