Cambodia > Transport > (Moto) Taxi
Moto taxis are motorbikes with a driver. They can be recognized by the driver's baseball cap and sometimes by the uniform colour and make of the bikes. The passenger sits on the back seat, grabs on and off the bike goes. In Phnom Penh's dense and erratic traffic, the experience can be rather frightening.
Because driver's may have a problem to understand you, it is best to have a very precise or at least fair idea of where you want to go so that you can protest should the driver turn into the wrong direction.
Ordinary car taxis also exist. Some years ago, Taxi Cantha, a new taxi company with metered taxis was introduced. They are more expensive, but also provide better service, such as sending an additional security guard to sit next to the driver if the situation or the time of day warrants.
Whatever taxi you take, always agree on the fare beforehand unless there is a meter which is also activated for the entire ride. And never try to show the driver anything on a map, because it will not work (map-reading is a taught skill).
