Road conditions are bad, with unpaved, dusty streets. During the rainy season the roads are often flooded or washed away so that transportation is not possible.
On the road, the safest thing to do in a bus is to hold on to your seat, so as not to bump your head at the top, or to bounce on your feet and use your legs as natural springs, since the bus does have none at all.
Normally busses seem to leave major towns very early in the morning, but there are many exceptions, so better check.
